Oftentimes, divorces are more difficult and complicated when children are involved. With much distruption to daily life and becoming newly accustomed to living arrangements, many children are left emotionally scarred.
However, changes in post-divorce parenting may provide for better outcomes.
What Is Nesting ?
Nesting is a new living arrangement that has become a popular way of managing the difficulties of child custody post divorce. When a child is constantly moving back and forth between homes, he or she may lose a sense of stability. Oftentimes, parents do not realize the serious effects associated with a lack of stability after divorce, which is why parents are claiming that the healthiest way to combat this problem is through “nesting.”
While factors of affordability will need to be taken into account, generally, the parent who is not staying in the family home on a particular day will return to their rented apartment located close by. There will be two rented living spaces and the expenses of both of those spaces will be split between both parents. This arrangement does not require children to change their living situation, which helps them eliminate some of the emotional issues associated with a divorce. Additionally, there is no packing a bag and constant change for the children.
